Mastering is not one size fits all. A great Mastering Engineer:

  • Is an expert in the entire record-making process, and has a working knowledge of the best-sounding, most effective records for each genre.

  • Has worked out every detail of their mastering process and equipment chain - from analog hardware, to cables and power supplies - maximizing fidelity and translatability for all systems, from AirPods, to Car Speakers, to Audiophile Systems.

You can hear and feel the difference between an average and a great Master.

Gear

The core of a great mastering system is full-range reference Monitoring, a precision Analog Chain, and full-fidelity DAC and ADC Conversion.

Mark’s analog chain is built around Custom Equalizers and a tube Compressor/Limiter expertly built by the great Frank Lacy (Lucas Engineering, JFL Audio). Using this pure path, with color pieces injected when desired, the program is preserved and enhanced to new levels of sonic impact and clarity.
